A Tour to Northern Uganda:
The Northern Region of Uganda includes several sub–regions called Districts. It covers districts of Gulu, Pader, Kitgum, Oyam, Amoro and many others. For the last twenty one (21) years the region has suffered severely with the internal war caused by the rebel group called Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).  Thousands of people lost their lives, and tens of thousands displaced.
Apparently there is peace in the region with the on-going peace negotiations between the LRA rebels and the government of Uganda. Though the peace talks have taken long to reach an end, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
Today, when you visit the region, you are welcomed by a big number of grass-thatched huts, built just next to each other, to form the Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camps where big families of about 8 members have to fix themselves in small temporary shelters of about 8 feet – 12 feet diameter.
There are a number of IDP camps basically found in the suburbs of Gulu and Oyam districts because these were the pivot or centers of the war.
When you intend to travel to Uganda, you would not miss visiting this region.
