Mgahinga Gorilla
Although the smallest in the country (about 34sq km), is very important, as it is one of the two parks in Uganda that are habitat for the endangered mountain gorillas. Situated 540km from the capital city- Kampala, in Kisoro District, southwestern Uganda. This journey takes 8 hours excluding rest stops. It is part of the great Virunga Conservation area adjoining Rwanda’s volcano and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Virunga National Parks. Other animals include buffaloes, elephant, bushbucks, the threatened golden monkeys …. Bird species include Rwenzori Turaco, Crowned Cranes among others.
